Responsible Budgeting and Spending

American taxpayers invest tens of billions of dollars each year to improve our schools, expand college access, provide training and assistance to job seekers, and maintain safe, fair, democratic workplaces.

These investments are important, but experience proves dollars and cents alone will not strengthen American education or put the unemployed back to work. We need sensible reforms, local flexibility, and responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars.

Reckless federal spending endangers both students and workers by crippling economic growth and weighing down future generations with unprecedented levels of debt.

Since the Obama administration took office less than three years ago, the total national debt increased to more than $14 trillion. This unsustainable path threatens future prosperity and economic opportunity for our children and grandchildren. Regardless of the nation’s fiscal challenges, and indeed because of them, the American people expect elected officials to spend taxpayer resources wisely and efficiently.
