Kline Welcomes MSHA’s Decision to Launch New Mine Safety Conference Process

U.S. House Committee on Education and the Workforce Chairman John Kline (R-MN) issued the following statement today after the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) announced it would implement a conference process to help reduce the backlog of contested mine safety violations:

“The decision to establish a new conference process is good news for America’s miners. It is critical for our mine safety system to hold bad actors accountable, while also providing opportunities to raise legitimate concerns about the decisions of enforcement officials. For the last three years, enforcement policies have fostered litigation and conflict instead of reasonable dispute resolution. This action by MSHA will help move its enforcement policies in a better direction, and I encourage the district offices to strongly consider making the conference process a priority.”
