Kline, Roe Applaud House-Passed Bill to Protect Taxpayers, Dismantle ObamaCare

The House of Representatives today passed the Restoring Americans’ Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act (H.R. 3762) by a vote of 240 to 189. The legislation combines recommendations from the House committees on Education and the Workforce, Energy and Commerce, and Ways and Means to dismantle ObamaCare, protect taxpayer dollars, and help rein in the nation’s deficits and debt.

“ObamaCare is wreaking havoc on working families, schools, and small businesses,” Education and the Workforce Committee Chairman John Kline (R-MN) said. “It is our responsibility to use every tool we have to dismantle the president’s flawed health care scheme, and this bill allows us to do just that. This proposal also represents an important opportunity to reduce federal spending and help rein in our nation’s deficits and debt. I’m pleased we came together to seize this opportunity. I want to thank Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, as well as my colleagues on the Ways and Means Committee, Energy and Commerce Committee, and Budget Committee for their leadership on this important effort. The American people sent us to Washington to focus on their priorities, and that’s what we’ve done today.”

“As an OB-GYN who spent more than 30 years caring for patients, I am keenly aware of the negative impact the president’s health care law has had on the American health care system,” Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions Subcommittee Chairman Phil Roe (R-TN) said. “The mandates, tax increases, and wasteful spending included in ObamaCare have put a strain on hardworking families and have succeeded only in making our already struggling economy worse. Because of this bill, the president will be forced – for the first time since he signed ACA into law – to engage with Congress on what he sees as his singular legislative achievement as president – an achievement which has been an abysmal failure since day one. I thank Chairmen Kline, Ryan, Upton, and Price for their work on this bill, and I am proud to support this important legislation.”

As passed by the House, the Restoring Americans’ Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act will:
  • Dismantle ObamaCare by:

    • Repealing the individual and employer mandates,
    • Repealing the auto-enrollment mandate,
    • Repealing the medical device and the “Cadillac” taxes, and
    • Repealing the ObamaCare Slush Fund.

  • Defend life and promote access to health care by:

    • Defunding abortion providers and
    • Investing in high-quality health care options for women.
