WASHINGTON, D.C. | September 23, 2010 -
House Republicans today unveiled A Pledge to America, a governing agenda developed through an unprecedented dialogue with the American people. The Pledge outlines immediate steps Congress can take to create jobs, restrain spending, reform health care, and enact other sensible reforms sought by the American people.
“This agenda is an unequivocal statement about the Republican commitment to listening and leading,” said Rep. John Kline (R-MN), the top Republican on the U.S. House Education and Labor Committee. “For too long, the concerns of the American people have taken a backseat to the whims of a power-hungry Washington. With the Pledge, we can begin to restore first principles now.”
Included in the Pledge are concrete ideas to create jobs, end economic uncertainty, and make America more competitive. This includes lasting relief from taxes and red tape for small businesses, which are the primary job creators in America. Also central to the Pledge are proposals to repeal and replace the government takeover of health care.
“The Republican vision for job creation and a smaller, more accountable government stands in stark contrast with the agenda of Democrats in Washington, who today are celebrating the six month anniversary of their government takeover of health care,” said Kline. “We can begin taking steps now to defund the destructive health care law that was overwhelmingly rejected by Americans, roll back its costly mandates, and replace it with commonsense reforms that will finally bring down costs.”
