***MEDIA ADVISORY*** This Week: Hearings to Examine Head Start, the Juvenile Justice System, and Worker Safety

The House Education and the Workforce Committee will hold hearings this week to discuss a number of important issues facing America’s children and workers.

On Wednesday, October 7 at 10:00 a.m., the full committee, chaired by Rep. John Kline (R-MN), will hold a hearing entitled, "Strengthening Head Start for Current and Future Generations." The hearing will provide members an opportunity to discuss the importance of Head Start and how to improve the program for future generations. Reforming Head Start continues to be a priority for the committee. The hearing will take place in room HVC-210 of the Capitol Visitor Center.

Also on Wednesday, at 1:00 p.m., the Subcommittee on Workforce Protections, chaired by Rep. Tim Walberg (R-MI), will hold a hearing entitled, "Protecting America’s Workers: An Enforcement Update from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration." The hearing is a part of the committee's ongoing oversight of the Occupational Safety Health Administration. Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health David Michaels is scheduled to testify on the agency's ongoing regulatory and enforcement actions. The hearing will take place in room 2261 of the Rayburn House Office Building.                                                                           

On Thursday, October 8 at 10:00 a.m., the full committee will hold a hearing entitled, "Reviewing the Juvenile Justice System and How It Serves At-Risk Youth." During the hearing, members will learn about federal, state, and local efforts to prevent criminal behavior and help support children who have engaged in illegal activity. The hearing will take place in room HVC-210 of the Capitol Visitor Center.
