Kline, Foxx Statement on Education Department’s Final Student Loan Borrower Rules

House Education and the Workforce Committee Chairman John Kline (R-MN) and Higher Education and Workforce Training Subcommittee Chairwoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC) today issued the following joint statement in response the Department of Education’s final rules regarding defense to repayment for student loan borrowers:

Students deserve a fair process that provides relief if they are ever defrauded by a college or university, and we fully support responsible efforts to ensure that kind of process is in place. Unfortunately, what the department has put forward is far from responsible. This extreme approach will limit choice for students, restrict access to higher education, and cost taxpayers billions of dollars. It’s a missed opportunity to serve the best interests of institutions, students, and taxpayers.
