Kline Statement on Cut, Cap and Balance Act

U.S. House Committee on Education and the Workforce Chairman John Kline (R-MN) issued the following statement on the Cut, Cap and Balance Act (H.R. 2560):

“For too long, leaders on both sides of the aisle have allowed spending to run rampant in the nation’s capital. As a result, the national debt has soared above an unprecedented 14 trillion dollars, we are borrowing roughly 40 cents of every dollar, and our country’s credit rating is at risk.

“America is at an impasse, and it’s time for Washington to do what is right.

“Today, House Republicans will vote to end runaway spending and unsustainable debt by supporting the Cut, Cap and Balance Act. This critical legislation, of which I am a proud cosponsor, will cut spending by $111 billion in Fiscal Year 2012, impose fiscally responsible spending caps, and require Congress to pass a Balanced Budget Amendment before raising the nation’s debt limit.

“I am disappointed – but not wholly unsurprised – to learn the president has threatened to veto the Cut, Cap and Balance Act. This administration simply refuses to acknowledge the severity of our nation’s debt crisis.  I strongly urge the president to stop playing politics with the economic stability of this country, and join my Republican colleagues in supporting a real plan to put our country back on the path to prosperity.”
