Kline, Walberg Statement on MSHA’s Plan to Reorganize Certain Enforcement Programs

U.S. House Committee on Education and the Workforce Chairman John Kline (R-MN) and Subcommittee on Workforce Protections Chairman Tim Walberg (R-MI) issued the following joint statement today after the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) announced a reorganization of its assessments and accountability programs:

“Bureaucratic inefficiencies must never undermine the health and safety protections America's workers deserve. We are pleased MSHA is taking steps to streamline its responsibilities and operate more effectively. This is another example of MSHA pursuing opportunities within existing law to enhance its enforcement of federal mine safety standards. However, the devil is always in the details. We will continue our oversight of the agency and review this proposal carefully to ensure it is in the best interest of the nation’s mine workers.”
