VIDEO RELEASE: Committee Republicans Raise Constitutional Objections to President's "Recess" Appointments

Express concerns with new uncertainty facing workers and employers

This week, the House Committee on Education and the Workforce examined President Obama’s decision to make so-called recess appointments to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), even though the Senate was not in recess.

As Chairman John Kline (R-MN) noted during Tuesday’s hearing, the president’s decision means “every action taken by the board will be tainted, creating greater uncertainty for employers and additional costs for taxpayers.”

In the videos below, committee Republicans highlight the threat the president’s action poses to our constitutional system of checks and balances, and the impact this may have on America’s workers and employers.

Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) highlights the serious constitutional implications of the president's action:

Rep. Phil Roe (R-TN) discusses the importance of the constitutional appointment process:

Rep. Tim Walberg (R-MI) questions the necessity of the president's constitionally suspect action:

Rep Trey Gowdy (R-SC) voices concern about the political nature of so-called recess appointments:
