Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC), chairwoman of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, issued the following statement after Andy Puzder withdrew his nomination for secretary of labor:
This is disappointing news for our nation’s workers and job creators. Andy is a good man, and he would have been a strong secretary of labor. He promised to provide a clear break from the failed policies of the last eight years. That made him an obvious target of union leaders and special interests who have long fought to preserve the status quo that is hurting hardworking Americans. I’m confident Andy will continue to be a strong advocate for commonsense solutions that promote the best interests of workers, entrepreneurs, and small businesses. I also urge President Trump to quickly select a new nominee so we can move the Department of Labor in a better direction — just as the American people deserve.
