Earlier today, top Republicans in the House and Senate introduced the Secret Ballot Protection Act, legislation that would create a firewall against the undemocratic “card check” scheme that congressional Democrats are expected to soon unveil. The Secret Ballot Protection Act would ensure that workers are always given the privacy and protections of a secret ballot in workplace organizing elections. That stands in stark contrast with the legislation forthcoming from congressional Democrats, which would do away with secret ballots in favor of a public sign-up process known as a “card check.”
Reps. John Kline (R-MN) and Tom Price (R-GA) – the top Republicans on the Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions Subcommittee and the Workforce Protections Subcommittee, respectively – were joined by Education and Labor Committee Senior Republican Howard P. “Buck” McKeon (R-CA) to introduce the legislation in the House. Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) is the legislation’s lead sponsor in the Senate. To mark the introduction of the legislation, Members hosted a press conference earlier this afternoon. Excerpts of that video can be viewed by clicking the link below or by visiting the Education and Labor Committee Republican YouTube channel.
