National Mediation Board Ruling Overturns More Than 75 Years of Workplace Election Policy
WASHINGTON, D.C.,
May 10, 2010
Rep. John Kline (R-MN), the U.S. House Education and Labor Committee’s senior Republican member, issued the following statement today in response to a ruling by the National Mediation Board designed to increase the number of unionized workers in the airline and railway industries:
"Once again, the Obama administration is using bureaucratic maneuvers to curry favor with a special interest constituency. Rather than thoughtfully and comprehensively reviewing the workplace rules and election practices unique to the aviation and railway industries, the National Mediation Board has imposed a quick fix at the behest of organized labor. This rule perpetuates Washington’s culture of union favoritism by making it easier for union organizers to increase their ranks, but it does nothing to address union decertification or protect the sanctity of the secret ballot that is currently under assault elsewhere." # # # |
