***MEDIA ADVISORY*** House Education and the Workforce Committee to Host Field Hearings in Pennsylvania and New York

Next week, the U.S. House Committee on Education and the Workforce will hold two field hearings entitled, “Reviving our Economy: The Role of Higher Education in Job Growth and Development.”

Education and the workforce are vital to America’s future economic success on an increasingly competitive world stage. Both areas require flexibility and adaptability; they rely on constant innovation to keep pace with rapid changes. As we work to improve the nation’s education system and foster economic growth, the committee is actively seeking input from communities to learn about local solutions to education and workforce needs.

On Monday, March 21 at 9:00 a.m., Chairman John Kline (R-MN) will join Rep. Lou Barletta (R-PA) in Pennsylvania’s 11th Congressional District to host the first field hearing of the 112th Congress.  The hearing will take place in the Henry Student Center at Wilkes University, located at 84 West South Street in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

On Tuesday, March 22 at 10:00 a.m., Chairman Kline will join Rep. Richard Hanna (R-NY) at the second field hearing in New York’s 24th Congressional District.  The hearing will take place in the Campus Center at the State University of New York Institute of Technology (SUNYIT), located at 100 Seymour Road in Utica, New York.

Both field hearings will feature two panel discussions.  The first panel will examine the local economy and job opportunities, while the second panel will focus on the ability of higher education institutions to successfully prepare graduates to join the workforce.
