***MEDIA ADVISORY*** House Education and the Workforce Committee to Host Field Hearing in Tennessee

On Thursday, April 21st at 10:00 a.m. CST, Chairman John Kline (R-MN) will join Rep. Scott DesJarlais (R-TN) in Tennessee’s 4th Congressional District to host the third field hearing of the 112th Congress.  The field hearing, titled “Reviving our Economy: The Role of Higher Education in Job Growth and Development,” will take place in the Waymon L. Hickman Building at Columbia State Community College, located at 1665 Hampshire Pike in Columbia, Tennessee.

A quality higher education system and a strong workforce are vital to America’s success in an increasingly competitive global economy. Both areas require flexibility and adaptability; they rely on constant innovation to keep pace with rapid changes. As we work to improve higher education in the nation and encourage lasting economic growth, the committee is actively seeking input from communities to learn about local solutions to education and workforce needs.

The field hearing will feature two panel discussions.  The first panel will focus on the ability of higher education institutions to successfully prepare graduates to join the workforce, while the second panel will examine the local economy and job opportunities.
