Hunter Urges Colleagues to Support Brighter Future for America’s Children
WASHINGTON, D.C.,
September 8, 2011
Today, Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA), chairman of the Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education, spoke on the House floor in support of legislation to remove barriers to high-quality charter school growth. Rep Hunter introduced the Empowering Parents through Quality Charter Schools Act (H.R. 2218) earlier this summer. “Charter schools provide an opportunity for students who might otherwise spend their formative years stuck in subpar classrooms,” said Rep. Hunter. “We cannot allow arbitrary measures or partisan differences to stand in the way of providing all children access to a high-quality education. I strongly encourage my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to unite in support of a better future for the nation’s students and vote yes on the Empowering Parents through Quality Charter Schools Act.” Watch Rep. Hunter’s full remarks below:
The committee is in the process of developing legislation to address accountability and teacher quality issues, and expects the full package of education reform legislation to be considered this year. # # # |
