***MEDIA ADVISORY*** Committee to Examine Recent Pro-Union Actions by the National Labor Relations Board

WASHINGTON, D.C., September 20, 2011
On Thursday, September 22 at 10:00 a.m., the U.S. House Committee on Education and the Workforce, chaired by Rep. John Kline (R-MN), will hold a hearing entitled, “Culture of Union Favoritism: Recent Actions of the National Labor Relations Board.” The hearing will take place in room 2175 of the Rayburn House Office Building.

On August 26, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) issued a series of decisions that impose sweeping changes to federal labor policies. Taken together, these decisions restrict workers’ right to a secret ballot election, make it more difficult to challenge union representation, and undermine an employer’s ability to maintain unity in the workplace. In addition, the NLRB recently required employers to post a vague and biased notice of employee “rights” in the workplace and is considering significant changes to the rules that govern union elections.

At a time when employers and workers need certainty, the NLRB has chosen to overturn years of established labor policy in order to promote a pro-union agenda. Thursday’s hearing will examine these recent actions by the NLRB and discuss their impact on the American workforce.
