Organizations Representing American Workers and Job-Creators Urge Passage of Workforce Democracy and Fairness Act
WASHINGTON, D.C.,
November 30, 2011
Today, the U.S. House of Representatives is expected to vote on H.R. 3094, the Workforce Democracy and Fairness Act. This commonsense legislation will rein in the activist agenda of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and reaffirm key workforce protections that have been in place for decades.
Numerous organizations representing American employers and workers have voiced strong support for the Workforce Democracy and Fairness Act: For more than a year, the NLRB’s agenda has fostered an environment of economic uncertainty and threatened to harm the construction industry. The NLRB’s decisions, proposed rules, invitations for briefs and enforcement policies demonstrate that the agency has abandoned its role as a neutral enforcer and arbiter of labor law in order to promote the special interests of politically powerful unions… It is imperative that Congress act now in order to return much-needed balance to our workplace laws. We urge the immediate passage of the Workforce Democracy and Fairness Act. – Associated Builders and Contractors It has become increasingly obvious that the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) has strayed far from its intended role as an independent arbiter of workplace rules and has become an aggressive advocate for Big Labor. H.R. 3094 is a necessary step in bringing balance back to the process…The Workforce Democracy and Fairness Act will protect workers’ rights and privacy. – American Hotel & Lodging Association Unable to facilitate unfair unionization through Congressional action, the Obama Administration has utilized the NLRB to achieve similar ends. With union membership falling year after year, the NLRB issued a torrent of proposals to inflate unions’ numbers… Reaffirming worker protections from overeager unions, the Workforce Democracy and Fairness Act overturns these ill-advised NLRB proposals. In order to reinstate fair, democratic elections and protect workers from federal overreach, [we] urge you to pass HR 3094, the Democracy and Fairness Act. – Alliance for Worker Freedom On behalf of millions of job creators concerned with mounting threats to the basic tenets of free enterprise, the Coalition for a Democratic Workplace urges you to support H.R. 3094, the Workforce Democracy and Fairness Act. Congress needs to immediately pass this much-needed legislation. The bill directly addresses recent and economically crippling actions of the National Labor Relations Board. – Coalition for a Democratic Workplace, signed by 243 state and national organizations With foodservice distributors and all of American business continuing to struggle to expand in a difficult economic environment, now is not the time for bureaucrats to enact additional requirements. Congress must pass HR 3094 to help businesses begin to grow again in order to create new jobs and put more Americans back to work. – International Foodservice Distributors Association Recent actions and decisions by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) represent a dramatic shift in labor law and threaten U.S. economic growth and job creation. The Workforce Democracy and Fairness Act would restore the balance needed to ensure employees receive the information they need to make an informed decision as well as give job creators the certainty they require to be confident in hiring and expansion. – National Association of Manufacturers It is always a challenge for small business owners to keep current with new regulations and labor laws, especially in the current economic environment. NFIB’s monthly economic surveys indicate that the small business economy is still at recession levels, and nearly 20 percent of small business owners surveyed indicate that economic and political uncertainty is their number one concern. Unfortunately, the pro-union actions of the NLRB will only create more uncertainty for small business owners at a time when the country needs them to be creating more jobs. NFIB strongly supports H.R. 3094…– National Federation of Independent Businesses H.R. 3094 would provide for a fair hearing process to take place and require a campaign phase that would be sufficient to ensure that employee and employer rights are protected. The legislation would preserve balance in the organizing process by ensuring that employees will have access to information from both the union and the employer as they seek to determine whether or not they want to be represented by a union… NRF fully supports H.R. 3094. – National Retail Federation H.R. 3094 would codify the long-standing criteria that the Board has traditionally used for determining the appropriateness of a proposed bargaining unit. Simply put, the modest changes that would be provided by H.R. 3094 would restore the legal status quo that existed prior to the Board’s radical policy shift. The Chamber believes the Workforce Democracy and Fairness Act would be a positive step towards re-establishing the important balance struck by the National Labor Relations Act. – U.S. Chamber of Commerce To learn more about the Workforce Democracy and Fairness Act, and to view a full list of supporting organizations, click here. # # # |
