Republicans on the House Committee on Education and the Workforce are taking action to improve the nation’s workforce investment system. Rep. Howard “Buck” McKeon (R-CA) spearheaded this effort with the introduction of the Workforce Investment Improvement Act (H.R. 2295). The legislation removes federal obstacles to important services so job seekers can receive the training and skills necessary to achieve their employment goals.

Rep. McKeon filmed a video in which he explains the need for reform and describes how his proposal will support a more responsive and efficient job training system.

 Unfortunately, as is often the case with the federal government, years have passed since the law was updated and inefficiencies have crept into the system. As a result, workers are unable to receive the training they need, employers lack a skilled workforce, and taxpayer resources are wasted. Republicans on the House Education and the Workforce Committee are working to chart a better course.

A former chairman of the Education and the Workforce Committee, Rep. McKeon has long championed reforms to the nation’s workforce investment system. Today, One-Stop Career Centers located across the country provide job training and employment services to millions of individuals. However, federal rules often undermine the ability to serve the individual needs of local workers. Among other provisions, H.R. 2295 eliminates arbitrary barriers to effective programs, so workers have access to training immediately. The legislation also encourages high-caliber service providers and economic development.
