VIDEO RELEASE: Rep. Kelly on Supporting Effective Teachers in K-12 Schools

House Education and the Workforce Committee Republicans today released the second in a series of videos that explore new draft legislative proposals to improve federal K-12 education law, known as No Child Left Behind.

In the video below, Rep. Mike Kelly (R-PA), a member of the Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education, shares his thoughts on the Encouraging Innovation and Effective Teachers Act. The proposal would help school districts identify, recruit, and retain better teachers through locally developed teacher evaluation systems based on multiple measures, including student achievement.

If we want to improve education in this country, we need to take steps to ensure all children have access to a first-rate teacher who inspires them to think bigger, work harder, and aim higher… The Encouraging Innovation and Effective Teachers Act will help lead the way toward an education system that supports better teachers and better outcomes for our students.

In addition to providing useful information about the talent of local teachers to school districts and parents, the Encouraging Innovation and Effective Teachers Act will:

  • Increase school choice and engage parents in their children's education;
  • Increase state and local innovation to reform public education;
  • Eliminate unnecessary and ineffective federal programs; and
  • Support Impact Aid.

The draft legislation is part of committee Republicans’ ongoing efforts to enact lasting reforms to K-12 education by improving accountability, increasing flexibility, and supporting more effective teachers in the classroom.
