U.S. House Committee on Education and the Workforce Chairman John Kline (R-MN) today released the following statement after the House approved a continuing resolution to fund the government through April 8, 2011:

“Every week, families and business owners sacrifice ‘wants’ for ‘needs’ in order to continue living within their means.  These Americans are acting responsibly, and they expect Washington to do the same.

“That’s why my Republican colleagues and I have proposed a commonsense budget that cuts spending by $100 billion.  This budget proposal makes tough choices, and tough choices are what we need to put our nation back on the path to prosperity.

"The bottom line is this: we can no longer deny the fiscal realities facing our nation. Today’s passage of another temporary funding measure gives Senate Democrats three weeks to get serious about enacting a longer term budget that falls in line with the priorities of the American people.  We can’t keep kicking the can down the road and continue piling debt on the backs of our children and grandchildren.”
