 U.S. House Committee on Education and the Workforce Chairman John Kline (R-MN) released the following statement in response to yesterday’s U.S. Supreme Court decision to uphold a state law providing a tax credit on donations to organizations offering private school scholarships.  Arizona Christian School Tuition Organization v. Winn was decided yesterday by a vote of 5 to 4:

“Advocates for parental choice achieved another victory yesterday - this time in the halls of the U.S. Supreme Court. I commend the Supreme Court for rejecting an attempt to deny parents the opportunity to choose a quality education for their child. State and local school leaders are implementing a number of solutions to enhance parental involvement, and our efforts to fix education in the nation must encourage this kind of creative reform.

 “Nationwide, parents are calling for more choice and flexibility in decisions affecting their children’s education. Just last week, the House of Representatives reauthorized a critical school choice program for families residing in the nation’s capital.  This bipartisan initiative will foster new opportunities for D.C. residents who demand a quality education for their children. I hope the president will recognize the growing support for parental choice and reconsider his misguided opposition to the D.C. scholarship program.”
