***MEDIA ADVISORY*** Committee to Consider Proposals to Improve Education Funding Flexibility and Modernize Federal Workers’ Compensation
WASHINGTON, D.C.,
July 11, 2011
On Wednesday, July 13 at 10:00 a.m., the U.S. House Committee on Education and the Workforce, chaired by Rep. John Kline (R-MN), will hold a markup of the State and Local Funding Flexibility Act (H.R. 2445) and the Federal Workers’ Compensation Modernization and Improvement Act (H.R. 2465). The markup will take place in room 2175 of the Rayburn House Office Building.
The State and Local Funding Flexibility Act, introduced by Chairman John Kline (R-MN), will provide states and school districts increased flexibility in the use of federal education dollars. H.R. 2445 will encourage innovation and local education priorities, while also ensuring continued accountability for student achievement. The legislation is the third in the committee’s series of education reform bills designed to overhaul current elementary and secondary education law. To learn more about H.R. 2445, click here. The Federal Workers’ Compensation Modernization and Improvement Act, introduced by committee leaders Kline, George Miller (D-CA), Tim Walberg (R-MI), and Lynn Woolsey (D-CA), will update the Federal Employees’ Compensation Act (FECA). Despite the growing size and cost of the federal workers’ compensation program, it has not been significantly reformed since 1974. The legislation will enhance the efficiency and integrity of the program to reflect the demands of today’s economy. To learn more about H.R. 2465, click here.
