Hunter: Latest Race to the Top Plan Adds to “Boondoggle of Bureaucracy” Facing Schools, Students
WASHINGTON, D.C.,
May 22, 2012
House Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education Chairman Duncan Hunter (R-CA) issued the following statement on the Department of Education’s plan to launch a new version of the stimulus-era Race to the Top program:
“The department’s proposal represents an unprecedented expansion of federal intrusion into local education decisions, adding to the boondoggle of bureaucracy already challenging teachers, principals, and superintendents. For the sake of students nationwide, I urge the president to stop dedicating more taxpayer dollars to new programs with questionable impact, and instead work with Congress to complete a reauthorization of elementary and secondary education law.”
