Kline Praises House Action to Protect Welfare Reform, Stop President’s Executive Overreach
WASHINGTON, D.C.,
September 20, 2012
House Education and the Workforce Committee Chairman John Kline (R-MN) issued the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives approved with bipartisan support H.J.Res. 118, a resolution disapproving of the Obama administration’s attempt to roll back key welfare reforms:
We can’t move our country forward by returning to the failed policies of the past. Welfare reform and its strong work requirements helped millions of Americans achieve self-sufficiency. We will not allow the president to unwind years of progress by rewriting the law through executive fiat. The House of Representatives has taken a critical step to protect bipartisan reforms that help low-income families and rein in the Obama administration’s unlawful overreach. I urge the Senate to pass this resolution without delay. During debate on H.J.Res. 118, Chairman Kline highlighted the success of welfare reform and criticized the president’s disturbing record of bypassing Congress to enact his agenda.
