Kline Recognizes FMLA Anniversary

U.S. House Committee on Education and the Workforce Chairman John Kline (R-MN) today released the following statement in recognition of the 20th anniversary of the Family and Medical Leave Act:

Signed by President Clinton two decades ago, the Family and Medical Leave Act enables workers to keep their jobs while they care for themselves or a loved one facing a serious medical condition. The law has also allowed families to spend time away from work with a newborn or adopted child with the confidence that their job will be waiting for them when they return to work.

The law has certainly not been without its challenges, including ambiguity surrounding what the law does and does not require. Finding responsible solutions that help Americans balance the demands of the workplace with the needs of their families is an ongoing priority. I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to achieve this shared goal.
