On Tuesday, March 29 at 10:00 a.m., Subcommittee on Workforce Protections Chairman Tim Walberg (R-MI) will host a field hearing entitled, “The 21st Century Workforce: How Current Rules and Regulations Affect Innovation and Flexibility in Michigan’s Workplaces.” The hearing will take place in room M119-M120 of Lansing Community College-West Campus, 5780 Cornerstone Drive, Lansing, MI.

The Fair Labor Standards Act is the primary federal law governing wage and hour standards. The workplace has changed dramatically since the law was enacted in 1938. An outdated regulatory structure has created confusion and uncertainty for both employees and employers, and many of the rules guiding the law’s implementation are not meeting the needs of today’s workforce. At a time when more men and women value workplace flexibility, federal policies make it harder to balance the needs of family and work. The field hearing will provide an opportunity to discuss how current rules and regulations are impacting Michigan’s workers and job creators.
