*** MEDIA ADVISORY *** UPDATE: Markup of Bill to Help Prevent Child Abuse and Neglect
WASHINGTON, D.C.,
April 28, 2016
The House Committee on Education and the Workforce, chaired by Rep. John Kline (R-MN), will meet TODAY at 11:00 a.m. to mark up H.R. 4843, the Improving Safe Care for the Prevention of Infant Abuse and Neglect Act.
Introduced by Reps. Lou Barletta (R-PA) and Katherine Clark (D-MA), the bill amends the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (CAPTA) to strengthen efforts to prevent and respond to infant abuse and neglect by requiring the Department of Health and Human Services to better ensure states are meeting current child welfare commitments. The bill was introduced after a Reuters investigation raised serious doubts about whether current policies are being properly implemented and enforced. To learn more about the bill, click here.
