WASHINGTON, D.C. | April 27, 2017
Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC), chairwoman of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, issued the following statement in response to a report on the D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program and its impact on student test scores:
We always need to be honest about how students are performing in the classroom. We cannot overlook the challenges facing far too many public schools today, and we cannot ignore the disappointing findings in this report. Those who operate and participate in this important program must step up and deliver the change that is necessary to ensure students excel from day one.
Transparency and accountability continue to be the hallmark of the D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program. There’s no question improvements need to be made, but in no way should this single report diminish our support for the program or the belief that parents deserve more freedom and choices when it comes to their children’s education.
Time and again, the facts have shown school choice delivers positive outcomes, and that is why we will continue to look for opportunities to expand the power of school choice to more students and families.
