Republican Leader of the Committee on Education and Labor, Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC), issued the following statement today after President Trump signed an Executive Order to prioritize skills-based hiring within the federal government to help strengthen and diversify our workforce:
“Today’s Executive Order is just one of many commitments this administration has made to skills-based learning and the talented workers who enrich our workforce. I have long championed skills-based education, and I applaud President Trump for recognizing the value of learning that happens outside of the classroom.
“Evaluating workers for what they know and can do rather than the piece of paper they hold will helpdispel the myth that a baccalaureatedegree is the only way to secure a fulfilling and well-paid job. We want our workforce equipped to succeed in a 21st century economy. That means encouraging all employers to evaluate potential employees on a level playing field.
“This Executive Order will unleash a wave of new opportunity that is mutually beneficial for both workers and our federal government, and I’m excited to see the positive direction this initiative takes our country as we recover from COVID-19.”
