Today, Republican Leader of the Education and Labor Committee, Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC), issued the following statement rebuking the Biden administration’s decision to eliminate the Department of Labor’s (DOL) Payroll Audit Independent Determination (PAID) program:
“Compliance assistance is vital in ensuring that business owners understand and fulfill obligations under the law. With the elimination of the PAID program, employers will have a more difficult time finding and correcting federal minimum wage and overtime violations, to the detriment of workers. Employees are best served when federal enforcement agencies form a collaborative relationship with businesses to ensure they receive the full pay and benefits they are entitled to under the law, with a program in place to get immediate relief when violations occur. Unfortunately, the Biden DOL has thrown in the towel just a week after he was sworn into office. The successful PAID program collected over $7 million for more than 11,000 workers before it was canceled today. Sadly, this decision is just another indication that the Biden DOL will revert to overzealous investigations and punitive enforcement against job creators to achieve their purported goal of protecting workers.”
