Today, Education and Labor Committee Republican Leader Virginia Foxx (R-NC) issued the following statement after Democrats passed their partisan budget reconciliation scheme, squandering $1.9 trillion while only allocating nine percent to support COVID-19 related public health initiatives:
"We need to call this bill what it is - a payoff for progressives. Instead of targeted COVID-19 relief, this bill spends taxpayer dollars recklessly and promotes a wish list of left wing policies unrelated to the pandemic. While Democrats push for a radical $15 national minimum wage that was already deemed ineligible in the Senate, funding for pet projects, and taxpayer bailouts for mismanaged union-run pensions, Republicans have fought for bipartisan relief that is temporary, targeted, and tied to COVID-19.
"As a former educator, if any of my students submitted an assignment that was 91 percent fluff, I’d fail them in a heartbeat. And because this bill lacks provisions that will help our schools safely reopen now, more and more students will see failing grades on their report cards as the Biden administration bends to the will of teachers’ unions.
"Twisting a crisis to suit your own political agenda is wrong and I condemn my Democrat colleagues for doing so today."
