Foxx Statement on Workers Rejecting Amazon Unionization

Today, Republican Leader of the Education and Labor Committee Virginia Foxx (R-NC) issued the following statement after the workers at the Amazon warehouse in Bessemer, Alabama, voted against joining the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union:

“Anyone who claims to support policies which empower workers should be pleased with the outcome of today’s vote. Though this election was overly politicized for months, the workers in Bessemer, Alabama, were ultimately able to cast their ballots in secret, allowing them to voice their opinions freely and without fear. This is the democratic process at work.

“Unfortunately, Democrats are so afraid of workplace freedom and empowered workers that they are attempting to force through their radical, job-killing PRO Union Bosses Act, now under the guise of an ‘infrastructure’ bill, to prevent fair and open elections like today’s from happening again. The PRO Union Bosses Act will allow union bosses to consolidate power and line their own pockets, all at the expense of workers’ rights. Democrats may be willing to sacrifice their integrity to score political points, but I am proud to see that hardworking Americans do not give in to undue outside influence.”
