Foxx Slams DOL’s Withdrawal of Independent Contractor Rule
WASHINGTON, D.C.,
May 5, 2021
Today, Republican Leader of the Education and Labor Committee Virginia Foxx (R-NC) issued the following statement in response to the Department of Labor’s (DOL) decision to withdraw a Trump-era rule establishing a worker’s classification as an independent contractor or employee under the Fair Labor Standards Act, affording American workers certainty about their employment status and more opportunities to choose when, where, and how they work: “The Biden administration is hell-bent on silencing the voices of workers, many of whom prefer the flexibility and entrepreneurial opportunities offered by the independent contractor model. While our economic recovery ensues, the federal government should be fighting to empower workers, not taking away their options as millions seek to reenter the workforce. “Withdrawing the independent contractor rule will create unnecessary uncertainty for the nearly 19 million workers currently acting as their own bosses and creating a life that suits their unique needs. This move by the DOL is just another Democrat attempt to wield power and dictate how Americans should live their lives. This is not in the best interest of the American workforce; it is in the best interest of the far left agenda.”
