Foxx Pressures Cardona to Purge Critical Race Theory Material from Education Department
WASHINGTON, D.C.,
July 23, 2021
Today, House Education and Labor Committee Republican Leader Virginia Foxx (R-NC) wrote a letter to Department of Education Secretary Miguel Cardona in response to the agency including divisive critical race theory source material in its COVID-19 school reopening guidance.
In the letter, Foxx writes: "Combating racism in our schools and society is important, but dividing our students based on their race is not a responsible solution." She continues: "I call upon you to issue a press release committing to the American people that nothing in the Department of Education's programs endorse, support, or otherwise encourage school districts to align with the Abolitionist Teaching Network or their self-described 'coconspirators'."
BACKGROUND: The letter comes days after media reports discovered the Department of Education's COVID-19 school reopening resource directly cited Abolitionist Teaching Network's "Guide for Racial Justice & Abolitionist Social and Emotional Learning" handbook. Among other radical agenda items, the controversial group demands antiracist therapy for Caucasian teachers and support personnel. Click here to read the full letter. ###
