Quick Take: Democrats Fail Students Impacted by Biden’s Afghanistan Mess

WASHINGTON, D.C., September 10, 2021

Americans have been horrified over the last month as we have witnessed the dangerous and inept withdrawal of America from Afghanistan.

American education institutions may have students or employees who were evacuated after the fall of Kabul. They may have students or employees who had friends or family members evacuated. They may have veterans of the Afghanistan war suffering from trauma in the aftermath of the American collapse.

Republican Member of the Education and Labor Committee Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-NC) offered an amendment ensuring that institutions are using their resources to respond to students and employees affected by the events in Afghanistan. If institutions have students enrolled, or employees, who evacuated from Afghanistan on or after August 15th, or who were affected by the evacuation, they must set aside a percentage of their school construction or teacher and school leader grant funds to address the needs of that population. Every Democrat voted against this amendment.
