Foxx on Lhamon’s Confirmation

Today, Education and Labor Committee Republican Leader Virginia Foxx (R-NC) gave the following statement on Catherine Lhamon’s confirmation as assistant secretary for the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights:

“It is unconscionable to confirm an assistant secretary who has already committed to violating her oath of office. Lhamon does not believe in the presumption of innocence for students accused of sexual assault. Victims of sexual assault deserve justice. Abandoning due process will not accomplish that goal, yet Lhamon has committed to repeating this same failed approach, despite multiple court decisions reaffirming students’ right to be considered innocent until proven guilty.

“Students’ safety and rights are too important to recycle Obama-era officials who have already shown us what they will do to jeopardize both.”
