WASHINGTON – Education and Labor Committee Republican Leader Virginia Foxx (R-NC) released the following statement after yesterday’s meeting with former Secretary of State and current Director of the Hoover Institution, Condoleezza Rice, to discuss the importance of school choice:

“A high-quality education is the path out of poverty for millions and provides students with the tools and skills they need to build a successful life.

“But no two student are the same; some students require different learning environments to grow and flourish.

“That is the strength of school choice: allowing families to choose a high-quality education option that fits the unique needs of their child instead of being limited by circumstances out of their control.

“Voters of all political stripes support giving parents more choice. Yet, Democrats have repeatedly chosen left-wing special interests and radical union demands over students – shutting them out of schools and closing doors to greater opportunities.

“The Democrats’ crusade to politicize our children’s education must end. It is time to empower our nation’s students to reach their highest potential.”

NOTE: The American Federation for Children published a poll recently that showed 55 percent support for providing parents vouchers if they disagree with the curriculum taught in their child’s school district. And support for school choice in general is even higher. A poll from June of this year showed that 65 percent of voters support school choice, including 61 percent of Democrats and 69 percent of Black voters.
