The Biden administration tirelessly advocated for America’s businesses, schools, and civil institutions to “follow the science.” But instead of “following the science,” this administration decided to follow the lead of union bosses.  

Data clearly showed that in May 2021 hospitalization and mortality rates fell across the country, but the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) pushed increasingly severe COVID measures for K-12 schools, including masking guidance. 

Why? Pressure from union bosses. 

New reporting demonstrates that union bosses lobbied senior health officials in the Biden administration for restrictive school COVID guidelines. We already knew that Dr. Rochelle Walensky, the director of the CDC, changed guidance on school reopening after being threatened by the American Federation of Teachers. Unbeknownst to the American public, she actively sought advice from 14 other organizations, including the National Education Association, the country’s largest teachers union. 

The Biden administration is still clearly bowing to the pressure of teachers unions. Just last week the White House COVID Coordinator was rushed off the stage after being asked if he believed “all schools will and must be opened this coming fall.” This should not have been a difficult question to answer. In fact, it is utterly ridiculous that the Biden administration will not commit to keeping schools open despite knowing the catastrophic effect school shutdowns had on the mental and emotional health as well as the academic progress of students. 

Masking children and keeping schools closed to appease power-hungry teachers unions is a low for those who claim the title “party of science.” The Biden CDC demonstrated that it cares more about politics than science. Evidently, we cannot trust the Biden administration to put the interests of students above the interests of power-hungry teachers unions and Big Labor.
