Quick Take: Another Win for School Choice

Earlier this week, Arizona made headlines with a significant win for school choice. Under a new law, every Arizona student will soon be eligible for an education savings account (ESA).

Parents across the United States are working to end the vise grip teachers unions and progressive school boards exercise over schools. Over the past two years the education bureaucracy ignored parental concerns over issues including protracted school shutdowns, mask mandates, and critical race theory-related curriculum. Instead of working with concerned parents, progressive teachers unions and education bureaucrats sidelined them.

Arizona’s ESA expansion introduces a critical, but missing, element needed in K-12 education: accountability. Introducing greater competition into the K-12 education market means government-run schools and teachers unions will face consequences when they choose to ignore parental input.

Ultimately, expanding ESAs in Arizona will provide more than a million students with more opportunities to pursue an education that meets their needs—this is a resounding win for students.
