Today, Education and Labor Committee Republican Leader Virginia Foxx (R-NC) issued the following statement on Operation Fresh Start, a Biden administration plan to move defaulted student loan borrowers into good standing, which would qualify them for massive student loan forgiveness at the expense of taxpayers: 
 
“The Department’s so-called Operation Fresh Start plan gives delinquent student loan borrowers the keys to borrow even more without any assurance they can afford to do so. It’s literally the definition of insanity. It’s also wrong!
 
“If these individuals were unable to pay back their loans the first time they borrowed, how will giving them access to more debt help? This is a terrible gamble—one for which taxpayers will end up paying the price.  
 
“Far from giving borrowers a ‘fresh start’, this policy will undoubtedly leave numerous borrowers, including those who have been responsible, much worse off. Under this scheme credit reports will no longer accurately reflect credit history, but giving a pass for irresponsibility is apparently this administration’s way of doing things.  
 
“Today’s announcement is just another dishonest trick from an administration that is shirking its duties to reform our postsecondary education system—so much for setting current and future borrowers up for success.”
