Chairwoman Foxx: The Parents Bill of Rights Will Support Parents’ Rights Movements Across America

WASHINGTON – Today, Education and the Workforce Committee Chairwoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC) gave the following speech, as prepared for delivery, during a forum with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, Members of the House Republican Conference, and concerned parents on the re-introduction of the Parents Bill of Rights Act and its impact on education freedom in America:

“One of the greatest blessings in life is to raise children – it’s a solemn responsibility that every parent takes immense pride in.

“From their earliest days as an infant to when they begin their educational journey, and beyond, children look up to their parents and see people who would fight tooth and nail to protect them.

“Everyone in this room understands that parents are the true gatekeepers for their children – they work every day to nurture them, teach them, and help them grow into productive leaders of our society.

“Unfortunately, the education bureaucracy has branded parents with a scarlet letter – as if to suggest that these dedicated moms and dads are nothing more than radicals who should be pushed away from their child’s educational growth and personal development.

“I find this to be not only abhorrent, but also entirely antithetical to the values that we espouse as Americans.

“The Parents Bill of Rights will support parents’ rights movements across America.

“Many different legislatures across the country have put forth similar efforts on the state level – and our efforts complement theirs – so that parents are not prevented from exercising their duty as stakeholders in their children’s education.

“And let me make one thing abundantly clear: parents are the primary stakeholders in their children’s education. Nobody can tell us otherwise.

“It’s my hope that today’s conversation is as enlightening for you as it is insightful for all of us.

“Thank you all for being here.”
