New ED Regulations Fail to Protect Students and Taxpayers

WASHINGTON – Today, Education and the Workforce Committee Chairwoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC) issued the following statement slamming the Department of Education’s regulatory package targeting career schools that limits students’ choice, unfairly attacks proprietary institutions, and denies skills development to job seekers:

“Today’s announcement does not protect students or taxpayers, but rather reaffirms the Department’s commitment to eliminating institutions that don’t have its preferred tax status.

“If the Biden administration was concerned about solving the student loan disaster it would recognize that less than one in 10 students are enrolled at a career college and work with Congress to ensure that all colleges and universities are held financially accountable for offering degrees with little to no financial value.

“I welcome accountability and transparency in postsecondary education. It is desperately needed. But this regulatory package is simply the same witch hunt we’ve seen the Biden administration carry out over the last two years to undercut an entire sector of institutions that serves the needs of veterans, minorities, and other disadvantaged students that Democrats claim they care about.”
