@EdWorkforceCmte Advance Bills that Deliver More Choices for the American People

WASHINGTON – Today, the Education and the Workforce Committee advanced four bills: H. Res. 461, expressing that the House of Representatives condemns the use of public elementary and secondary school facilities to provide shelter for aliens not admitted to the United States; H.R. 1147, the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act of 2023H.R. 2813, the Self-Insurance Protection Act; and H.R. 2868, the Association Health Plans Act.

On the passage of the bills, Chairwoman Foxx said: “Today’s markup advanced bills that improve outcomes and choices for the American people. The first two bills we considered, H. Res. 461 and H.R. 1147, promote students’ academic success by preventing public school facilities from being used to perpetuate the Biden administration’s failed border policies and expanding nutritious milk options in school lunches. The second pair of bills, H.R. 2813 and H.R. 2868, focus on tackling the skyrocketing cost of health care for small businesses and workers by giving Main Street America more options and flexibilities in the kind of coverage available. I urge my colleagues to support these good governance bills when they reach the House Floor.”

H. Res. 461, condemning the use of public elementary and secondary school facilities to provide shelter for aliens not admitted to the United States:

  • Sends a clear message that schools are for educating students, not supporting President Biden’s bad policies.
  • Reaffirms that the academic success and safety of America’s students must be put first.

H.R. 1147, the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act of 2023:

  • Allows schools participating in the National School Lunch Program to serve all varieties of flavored and unflavored milk, including whole milk.

H.R. 2813, the Self-Insurance Protection Act:

  • Protects small businesses’ access to stop-loss insurance, a form of insurance that helps employers self-insure and protects them from catastrophic health costs.

H.R. 2868, the Association Health Plans Act:

  • Increases health coverage options and lowers costs for small businesses by expanding association health plans.
