Foxx Reacts to Biden Admin Efforts to Limit Health Care Options in Virginia

WASHINGTON – Today, Education and the Workforce Committee Chairwoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC) issued the following statement in response to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ underhanded attempt to stymie a Virginia law that would expand health care access for small businesses:

“The cost of health insurance weighs upon the shoulders of small business owners across our nation – it’s a pressing issue that is on their minds from sunup to sundown. Virginia took a bold and decisive step in the right direction when it passed a bill allowing job creators and self-employed individuals to aggregate resources and expand access to health care options.

“Unfortunately, the Biden administration believes that blocking Virginia law by issuing top-down government mandates is the appropriate prescription. Regulatory snare traps and heavy-handed government intrusion such as this only serves to undercut flexibility in health coverage options and kneecap the small businesses and working Americans that this administration purports to serve.

“I am proud of the work of the Education and the Workforce Committee and House Republicans to pass the CHOICE Arrangement Act to build off the work of states like Virginia to expand access to innovative, high quality, and affordable health care coverage options like association health plans. President Biden should join us in this effort instead of pushing more one-sized-fits-all unaffordable health care mandates.”
