Foxx Statement on Student Loan Errors

Today, Education and the Workforce Committee Chairwoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC) issued the following statement in response to reports of student loan errors:

“In order to be successful, servicers need to be performing at their best. Period. But this doesn’t mean the Department is off the hook.

“For more than three years the Department has known it would need to return borrowers to repayment. Yet, the Department failed to provide any evidence that it had an actual plan to do so. Congress, servicers, borrowers, and taxpayers have all been left in the dark. But now the Department is suddenly shocked that there were errors?

“Constantly changing deadlines, providing faulty or incomplete data, and failing to give timely communication are some of the hallmarks of this administration’s incompetence. But this shouldn’t be surprising since the Department is hellbent on unilaterally ruining the federal student loan program, turning a blind eye to responsibility, and ignoring the intent of Congress.

“Instead of pushing its radical agenda of loan ‘forgiveness’—something the Supreme Court already ruled was unconstitutional—this administration needs to dedicate its resources to bringing borrowers back to repayment.

“Quit scapegoating and get to work.”
