Foxx Slams CDC Guidance that Encourages Segregation and Gender Dysphoria

WASHINGTON – Today, Education and the Workforce Committee Chairwoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC) issued the following statement in response to the CDC’s release of Promoting Mental Health and Well-Being in Schools: An Action Guide for School and District Leaders:

“In the wake of a devastating pandemic and unnecessarily prolonged school lockdowns, we know that students’ mental health is suffering. Unfortunately, the CDC is using this tragedy to push a far-left vision of mental health that is totally out-of-step with what our children need.

“Under the guise of ‘mental health,’ the CDC’s recently released guidance advocates that schools create affinity groups in which students can be segregated by race and sexual orientation. The guidance also urges schools to connect transgender students with groups who will affirm their claimed identity and fails to recognize that many parents have legitimate concerns about the prevalence of gender dysphoria.

“This guidance completely misses the mark of what’s best for students and their families. Segregation has no place in our classrooms, and schools should never presume without first asking parents how to respond to such sensitive issues as gender dysphoria. It's a shame that the CDC has injected a far-left vision of gender and race into guidance that should be bipartisan.

“The CDC should get back to its mission to ‘protect America from health, safety and security threats,’ and stop lobbying for a woke political agenda.”
