Columbia University President and Board Chairs to Testify at Antisemitism Hearing

On Wednesday, April 17, at 10:15 a.m., the Committee on Education and the Workforce, chaired by Virginia Foxx (R-NC), will hold a full Committee hearing titled “Columbia in Crisis: Columbia University’s Response to Antisemitism.”
 
“Some of the worst cases of antisemitic assaults, harassment, and vandalism on campus have occurred at Columbia University,” said Chairwoman Foxx. “Due to the severe and pervasive nature of these cases, and the Columbia administration’s failure to enforce its own policies to protect Jewish students, the Committee must hear from Columbia’s leadership in person to learn how the school is addressing antisemitism on its campus.”

February 12, 2024: Chairwoman Foxx sent a letter to Columbia President Dr. Minouche Shafik, Columbia Trustees Co-Chair David Greenwald, Columbia Trustees Co-Chair Claire Shipman, Barnard College President Dr. Laura Rosenbury, and Barnard College Board of Trustees Chair Cheryl Glicker Milstein requesting documents and information regarding Columbia University’s response to antisemitism on its campus and its failure to protect Jewish students, faculty, and staff.
 
February 29, 2024: Columbia undergraduate student Eden Yadegar spoke at a Committee roundtable on campus antisemitism, stating, "[w]e have been attacked with sticks outside of our library. We have been surrounded by angry mobs. And we have been threatened to 'keep f***ing running.'"
