@EdWorkforceCmte Advances Bills to Strengthen Academic Freedom and Bolster the Workforce

WASHINGTON – Today, the Education and the Workforce Committee advanced nine bills to support students, parents, and workers: H.R. 618, the Improving Access to Workers’ Compensation for Injured Federal Workers Act; H.R. 8606, the Never Again Education Reauthorization and Study Act of 2024; H.R. 8648, the Civil Rights Protection Act of 2024; H.J. Res. 165, a Congressional Review Act resolution to nullify the Biden administration’s Title IX rule; H.R. 6816, the Promoting Responsible Oversight To Eliminate Communist Teachings (PROTECT) for Our Kids ActH.R. 5567, the Combating the Lies of Authoritarians in School Systems (CLASS) Act; H.R. 8649, the Transparency in Reporting Adversarial Contributions to Education (TRACE) Act; H.R. 7227, the Truth and Healing Commission on Indian Boarding School Policies Act of 2024; and H.R. 8534, the Protecting Student Athletes’ Economic Freedom Act. 
 
On passage of the bills, Education and the Workforce Committee Chairwoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC) said: “While these nine bills address a wide range of issues in the Committee’s jurisdiction, they all share a common mission: bringing greater accountability to our institutions on behalf of all Americans. Our nation’s education and workforce systems face tremendous challenges, but I am confident that the legislation passed today will strengthen student learning, bolster academic freedom, and pave the way for a stronger, more prolific workforce. Thank you to my colleagues for their work in building these critical bills.”
 
Improving Access to Workers’ Compensation for Injured Federal Workers Act

  • Allows nurse practitioners and physician assistants to act as eligible providers under the FECA program within the scope of their practice according to state law.
  • Expands options for federal workers to receive medical treatment, especially in rural areas, so they can get back to work sooner.

Never Again Education Reauthorization and Study Act of 2024

  • Promotes tolerance by extending the United States Holocaust Museum’s mandate to disseminate Holocaust education resources through Fiscal Year 2030 and by commissioning a study on Holocaust education in public schools.

 Civil Rights Protection Act of 2024

  • Increases transparency by mandating public disclosure of colleges' investigative processes for Title VI civil rights complaints.
  • Ensures the Office for Civil Rights investigates Title VI complaints properly.

Congressional Review Act resolution to nullify the Biden administration’s Title IX rule

  • Formally dispenses with the administration’s Title IX rule so that educational institutions can continue protecting the safety of women and girls and their access to educational opportunities.

Promoting Responsible Oversight To Eliminate Communist Teachings (PROTECT) for Our Kids Act

  • Combats foreign interference by halting the flow of CCP funds to K-12 schools. 

Combating the Lies of Authoritarians in School Systems (CLASS) Act

  • Ensures transparency by requiring schools to disclose the source of any foreign funding. 

Transparency in Reporting Adversarial Contributions to Education (TRACE) Act

  • Empowers parents by giving them the right to know about foreign influences in their child's public school, including the ability to review and copy classroom and professional development materials funded by foreign governments and foreign entities of concern.

Truth and Healing Commission on Indian Boarding School Policies Act of 2024

  • Establishes a Commission to formally investigate, document, and report on the impact of Indian boarding schools.

 Protecting Student Athletes' Economic Freedom Act

  • Shields student athletes from misguided designations as employees by an activist National Labor Relations Board.
