In Case You Missed It, Education and the Workforce Committee Chairwoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC) spoke to Fox Business about the abysmal record of AmeriCorps and recommended the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) take a good look at the program as Vivek Ramaswamy and Elon Musk seek out ways to shrink the federal government. 
 


On the failures of AmeriCorps: 

“... [The] people in charge are totally incompetent, David. Totally incompetent. I will tell you, if the Lord put me in charge, I’d get rid of AmeriCorps in a heartbeat. It needs to be disbanded. It wastes, wastes $1 billion a year and we need to get rid of it. I hope it’s number one on the list for Vivek and Elon to get rid of. We need to go back to our Constitutional roots. We need not to have a Department of Education at the federal level. We need to examine every single program in the federal government, and say ‘is this mandated by the Constitution?’ If it isn’t, then we shouldn’t be doing it.”

On the work of DOGE:

“That’s one of the things that has to be done. The American people have to see the money that’s being wasted by these agencies…So we need Vivek and Elon to make the case to the American people. I’ll be out there right beside them and I can give them a long list of things that we need to defund.”
