Education and Workforce Committee Chairman Tim Walberg (R-MI) issued the following statement calling out the Biden-Harris Department of Education for disregarding the law to impose disruptive policy changes to career and technical education (CTE) programs, which are critical to help fill America’s open jobs:
“With only a handful of days left in office, the Biden-Harris Education Department is pushing through flawed and ill-advised changes to CTE programs, which are critical in helping to close the skills gap and providing students with the tools to fill in-demand jobs. These changes exceed the Department’s authority under the bipartisan Perkins CTE Act and dismiss concerns from Congress as well as state and local CTE leaders. The Biden-Harris changes would impose new burdens on states, school districts, and CTE programs. Stifling CTE programs with new red tape is the last thing we should be doing as job creators face a shortage of skilled workers.
“This is the perfect example of the type of federal overreach Committee Republicans and the Trump administration are committed to ending. The Trump administration should swiftly reverse these misguided CTE changes as it works to return education decisions to the state and local level.”
